Final Project
For my fifth concentration piece, I will be creating an oil painting of a sunset which was in my backyard a few years ago. This sunset had many unique and vibrant colors which help it to fit in with my concentration. It shows the beautiful simplicity and serenity of Mother Nature during sunsets.
The first thing I did was I started painting the background. It was a challenge to mix the correct colors and to blend them correctly on the canvas. Next, I began mixing dark maroon colors, because I didn’t want to use black for the silhouettes of the trees.
After mixing the colors for the trees, I began painting each individual tree, using different dark values to add depth and shadows. It was a very tedous and long process. I began with the trunk of each tree and then added on each branch with the skinny twigs.
Overall, I am happy with how this project turned out. I learned a lot about the importance of values, even when the reference photo appears to have minimal value changes. I feel like I successfully recreated the reference photo and got the colors to blend well.
