1. My most successful project was the Georgia O'Keeffe inspired colored pencil art. Throughout this project, we learned about her unique style of artwork. She was known for her close up and detailed depictions of flowers, buildings, etc. I decided that I wanted to draw a picture of flowers up close just like she did many times. This project was very enjoyable for me because I have never had the opportunity to learn colored pencil techniques before. Prismacolor pencils are very smooth and very easy to blend. This made it easy for me to include the textures, highlights, shadows and close details in each flower. Overall, I was happy with the size of my paper and the perspective which I used. In my opinion this was the most enjoyable and influencial art project of the year. It taught me about her unique style and how to layer up and blend the colored pencils to make my artwork look detailed similarly to hers.
2.Over the course of Art 2, I believe that my art skills have improved dramatically. As you can see in the pen and ink project, I did not have the greatest grasp of perspective. The image looked too flat in my opinion, and it had very little depth. Over the coarse of this class, however, both Ms. Rossi and lots of practice have helped me to improve my perspective in my artwork. When I painted my picture of half-dome rock in Yosemite, my style was inspired by Henri Rousseau. In my opinion I captured the perspective better in my painting, because I was able to show not only a foreground, but a middle and background as well. Also, I believe that although these two projects were made using different materials on different mediums, my skills improved. I had better strokes with the paint brush that with the pens, and my techniques allowed me to add more details and highlights than I was able to capture in my pen and ink project. I also feel that the painting showed who I am as an artist, and it showed my creativity in using different shades and colors while depicting nature scenes.
3. During the coarse of the year, we did some mini projects to learn about each material and medium. My favorite mini projects were the pen and ink drawings of the vases, and the colored pencil drawings of the fruits and vegetables. In my opinion, the pen and ink vase drawing was very helpful to teach me some of the techniques which are often used to add value to black and white images. By practicing stippling a lot, I came out much more prepared for my final drawing than I was before the mini project. After lots of practice I was finally able to add shading and details to simple drawings using pen and ink techniques. The colored pencil mini project was very benificial to me because it taught me a lot about blending the colored pencils. Also, when Ms. Rossi told us to include some colors which we don't actually see in the fruits and vegetables, it helped me to be more creative and add some unique aspects to my artwork. It was interesting to work with so many colors, while keeping in mind that you must somewhat harmonize your colors so that the final piece looks good. Overall, I definitely believe that spending a couple of days working on the mini projects greatly increased the outcome of my final art pieces.
