FinAl project
This piece was one which took me a lot of time and effort, and it was created in oil paint. It is an image of the flowers which were at my grandmothers funeral, so it is very meaningful to me. The morning after, the flowers were all frosted over, but were magically still completely alive. I thought it was a beautiful image, so I wanted to recreate it through my artwork. I began by filling in base values for the flowers. For the white ones, I mixed several values of pinks, yellows, oranges, and greys to add depth. Towards the base of each petal, I made sure to add more values of greys to depict the image of shadows within the flowers. For the pink flowers, I also mixed several shades of pinks, and made sure to add deeper values as I went deeper into the flowers. The values and textures which I used allowed me to give depth to each flower. Then, I began to add a base layer of green in the background, and I began to mix lighter and darker shades to use when creating individual leaves. Adding the leaves really helped the painting begin coming to life. At the end of this project, I took a white paint and began to add the frost, and the small sections of babies breath peaking through the flowers. Adding the frost was simple, I just took a small brush and dabbed small amounts of white paints around the edges of the flowers, strategically placing it so that it looks realistic. Overall, I am happy with how this piece turned out. I feel that I was able to depict this beautiful picture in honor of my grandmother.
