Final Project
Shown above is my first AP Art concentration project. This oil painting symbolizes my concentration by depicting the small beauties in mother nature. Most of the flowers are white, except for the one pink flower. This flower symbolizes one of the small yet beautiful details in mother nature which makes it unique.
For this project, I started out by sketching out the layout of the flowers. I began painting the base white color for each of the flowers, and then I began adding greys and blues to add more values. I tried to put some depth in the painting by adding shadows to the back flowers. On the flowers towards the front of the painting, I added white highlights.
I then began to add the green seeds and leaves. I started with a solid base color, and then slowly added lighter and lighter greens to add depth. After working on the green, I realized that my flowers needed more depth and I went back to add more shadows.
This project taught me how important depth is in depicting mother nature. Flowers are very dimensional and it is very easy to accidentally make them look flat in a painting. I learned how much of a different different shades of greys and whites and greens can make in this particular painting. Overall, I am pretty happy with how this painting turned out. I feel that it was challenging to paint because the reference photo didn't have very much value, so I had to use my creativity to imagine where the different shadows would be placed.
